Joyce Zehr

I have taught preschool, elementary, middle school, and high school. My first love, however, has always be teaching and working with younger children. In my spare time, I enjoy gardening, photography, baking, and creating teaching resource materials.

Courtney Jablon
 4th Grade

What a delight it has been to be a part of the District 140 Team at Davenport Elementary. I cannot think of a career that I would enjoy more than being able have a front row seat to the fabulous creativity, ready enthusiasm, and earnest resolve that is wrapped up in the heart of a child. Each fourth grade student in my room is a blessing with a terrific personality that I enjoy knowing and having the privilege of teaching.

My first opportunity to lead a classroom of upper elementary students was in Deerfield, Illinois where I taught fifth grade for fifteen years and fourth grade for one. Earlier, my own education brought me to the University of Texas at Austin where I studied elementary education and French before returning to the Chicago suburbs. There, I began teaching and eventually pursued graduate studies in Curriculum and Instruction through National-Louis University.

When I am not in the classroom, I enjoy reading and writing, and hiking and swimming; and all of these activities are better when done alongside of my husband. He and I also enjoy investigating the sites which are hidden within a day’s journey of our home, and being a part of our church and community.

It is a pleasure to be part of the Eureka community as well as a teacher at Davenport Elementary. I joyfully appreciate the privilege and responsibility of the precious trust that has been placed in my care.
